Kushawarta
Kund is the point of Godavari River beginning, Kushavarta Kund is a holy
bathing place that is close to the Trimbakeshwar place of worship. Taking a
holy swim in the Kushavarta kund as traditional stories says it can spread off
sin. Covered concretes on the boundaries of the pond were built by Shreemant
Rao Sahib Parnekar. It has six places with corners, which gives this place additional
name - Teerthraj. And on every place in the corner, there is a temple. Temple of
Kedareshwar Mahadev is on the Southeast corner. To the southwest is Sakshi
Vinayak. Close to it is Kusheshwar Mahadev. Also, here one can see a Godavari
Temple.
The work of building the current main temple of Trimbakeshwar, fabricated with
black basalt, was inaugurated by Shrimant Balaji Bajirao, the Nanasahib
Peshawe, in 1755 and was finished in 1786, at a cost of 16 lacs. The Shiva
deity mounted in the temple at that time was ornamented with a world famed gem
– the Nassak diamond. The stone was taken by the British during the 3rd
Anglo-Maratha war, and is presently in the hands of a U.S. businessman.
On every corner of Kushavarta Kund, one can discover worth stay temples like Ganga Mandir, Jwareshwar Mahadev, and Kancheshwar. Don't forget to see the statues of 30 divinities counting of Dash Avatar.
